Mosquito Control

Mosquito Control is important to protect Public Health risk of mosquito- borne diseases like dengue. Rakiraki Town Council Health Department have implemented proactive measures during dengue endemic seasons (November- April) and they are as follows:

  • House to House Awareness

Rate payers and non-rate payers residing within the Rakiraki town boundaries are advised to eradicate any possible breeding sites for mosquitoes which includes, drainage, overgrown grass and shrubs, and any receptacles which has the capacity to hold water. Councils drain and overgrown grasses outside residential properties are being managed by RTC laborers.

  • Dengue Cases

From April 2021 till to date, RTC have not recorded any dengue cases even though most of this hot spot areas for dengue is within the Town boundaries.

  • Collection

RTC does not only engage in household collection services, it also schedules collection of white goods, tins and other man-made containers capable of holding water for mosquito breeding sites.

Adult Mosquito Spraying

AMS is the last resources for reducing the transmission of Dengue and Since there hasn’t been any outbreaks till to date, the Council’s main focus is to disseminate the importance of awareness to residential areas and enforcing the Public Health Act through issuance of abatement notice for the existence of any nuisance.
