Inspection on Health Licensing for New and Renewal Applications

All food establishments in Rakiraki Town are required to obtain a valid health license to ensure compliance with Food Safety Standards. During the inspection process, both new and renewal applications are thoroughly reviewed to assess compliance with Food Safety Act 2003 and Food Safety Regulation 2009. Any deficiencies or violations are documented, and establishments are provided with guidance on necessary steps to rectify issues and obtain or renew their Health License.

Condemnation of Unsafe Food Products

Food items deemed to be expired, dented, contaminated or decolorized and posing potential health risks to consumers are condemned. RTC recently have assisted MOH and FCCC with numerous Joint operations to food retail outlets and have condemn food items that are identified as unsafe for human consumption. The Authorized Food Officer for the Council issue condemnation certificate to Food Retail and all condemned food items are removed from the shelves/ Freezers, packed in a carton and transported to the Naria Dumpsite and properly disposed of in a dug pit

Food Grading Assessment

As part of the inspection, food establishments in Rakiraki are also graded based on the level of compliance with FSA 2003 and FSR 2009. The grading system takes into consideration factors such as Good Hygiene Practices, transportation of food items, storage (temperature control), internal building structure, external environment, Sanitation and other requirements stated in the MOH Food Grading Official Checklist.

Food Complaints

Any complaints related to Food Safety received by the RTC Office are promptly investigated during the inspection process. Complaints are thoroughly assessed, and necessary actions are taken to address any issues identified. Follow-up inspections are conducted to ensure that corrective measures are implemented and that the concerns of consumers are addressed satisfactorily
