Homelessness

In council terms, homelessness refers to situations where individuals or families lack a stable, permanent, and adequate nighttime residence. This can include:

  1. Rough Sleeping- Living on the streets or in places not meant for habitation.
  2. Temporary Accommodation- Staying in shelters, hostels, or temporary housing provided by the council.
  3. Hidden Homelessness- Staying with friends or family temporarily, often referred to as “Sofa Surfing”.

Local Councils have specific duties to help those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. This includes providing advice, support, and sometimes temporary accommodation.
