Promoting Recycling

Rakiraki Town Council have been promoting composting and collecting recyclables at waste collection stations as pilot projects and it was seen that composting is the best way of recycling organic waste and sorting waste for recycling is best way to minimize recyclable waste.

Council has started engaging in the recycling programs in partnership with recycling companies which are Mission Pacific and South Pacific Waste Recyclers. Paper and PET bottles are the 2 items being collected for recycling.

Compost

Most of the generated waste from the market is green waste which is utilized for composting situated at the Naria Dumpsite. Some green waste is also taken by market vendors for their livestock.

Clean School Program

Implementation of Clean School Program (Solid Waste Management) aims to instill best practices in schools through proper Waste Management and to maintain a habitable clean school environment. The program strongly supports 3R practices whereby monitoring and evaluation determines the progress of the school.
